短篇小説の王国

短篇小説の王国 ― 翻訳プロジェクトご案内

〈短篇小説の王国〉はこれまでにあまり紹介されてこなかった英語圏の作家を中心に電子書籍で紹介しようという企画です。そして文芸翻訳志望者のための企画でもあります。

 実質的には惑星と口笛ブックスであまり知られていない作品を電子書籍で刊行するというプロジェクトです。参加者に作品を探して訳してもらい、それを惑星と口笛ブックスが刊行します。1冊の分量は原稿用紙で50枚~100枚程度で、惑星と口笛のサイトにページを作り、アマゾンや楽天で販売する予定です。

 印税に関しては、アマゾン(kindle)や楽天にはそれぞれの訳者のアカウントで登録してもらい、訳者が直接受け取る形をとりたいと思います。
 惑星と口笛の手数料は20%ですので、適当な機会に惑星と口笛のほうに払ってください。ただ、売れ行きはよくて100部くらいかなと思います。価格が500円だとするとアマゾンの印税は17000円くらいです。そこから手数料を払うと13000円くらいなので、まずは単独訳の実績を作るくらいの感覚で臨むのがいいかなと思います。もちろん、1000部売れたら、その10倍になるわけですが。

 アマゾンや楽天への登録などが面倒な方には、手数料25%で、こちらにお任せというやりかたも考えています。ただその場合は振込料が負担になるので、支払いが遅くなったりするかもしれません。

 著作権ですが、死後70年経っていた場合は、著作権は消滅しています。それ以外でも10年留保というルールを利用すれば、1970年12月31日以前に刊行されたものだったら刊行できる可能性はあります(すべてではありません)。ただそれは紙の本の場合のルールで、電子書籍にそのルールが適用できるかどうかを疑問視する声もあります。しかしOKとする意見もあり、出版界の共通認識は形成されていない状況です。惑星と口笛では刊行可ととらえています。ご心配のかたは死後70年の作家の作品のみにしぼってください。

 翻訳する場合は可能なかぎり紙の本を底本としてください。簡単でいいので作家解説あるいは作品解説はかならずつけてください。解説の分量の決まりはありません。

 参加資格ですが、池袋コミュニティカレッジの「英米短編小説翻訳講座」と、文化ありますの「英米小説翻訳講座超初級」を二度以上受講してくださったかたは、どなたでも参加できます。それ以外のかたは、こちらで用意した作品を一部訳してもらって参加を判断させていただくことになると思います。単独訳書のある方はご相談ください。

 惑星と口笛のほうでは翻訳のチェックは細かくはできません。誤訳は多くない、もしくはどなたかにチェックしてもらえばだいじょうぶというレベルの方、限定になります。
 自信があれば、英語以外の言語の本でもOKです。

 これまでにない試みですので、まずシステム作りからはじめないといけません。参加者全体で推進するといった意識も不可欠になると思います。また運営には協力者が必須になりそうです。そのあたりも含めてどうかよろしくお願いいたします。
